What Is the Clareon Vivity Lens?

Clareon Vivity is Alcon's non-diffractive extended depth of focus (EDOF) intraocular lens. Where a traditional multifocal lens splits incoming light into separate focal points — which can create halos and glare — Vivity uses proprietary X-WAVE technology to gently stretch and shift a single wavefront of light. The result is a continuous, uninterrupted range of vision from distance through intermediate, with a night-time visual quality that is very close to a standard monofocal lens.

The lens is built on Alcon's Clareon biomaterial, an advanced acrylic engineered for exceptional clarity and one of the lowest rates of glistenings and surface haze of any modern IOL — qualities that support crisp, stable vision for the life of the lens.

  • Night vision close to a monofocal, with minimal halos and glare
  • Excellent for computer, dashboard, and arm's-length tasks
  • Clareon material with very low glistenings for lasting clarity
  • Vivity Toric option corrects astigmatism in the same procedure

Clareon Vivity: Your Questions, Answered

Clareon Vivity is a non-diffractive extended depth of focus (EDOF) intraocular lens from Alcon. It uses X-WAVE technology to stretch and shift light rather than split it, delivering a continuous range of clear distance and intermediate vision with a side-effect profile close to a monofocal lens.
Because Vivity is non-diffractive, it produces far fewer halos and less glare than traditional multifocal lenses. Many patients report night vision comparable to a standard monofocal lens, which makes Vivity a popular choice for people who drive at night.
Vivity provides excellent distance and intermediate (arm's-length and computer) vision and functional near vision, but most patients still use reading glasses for small print or extended close-up work. If maximum reading independence is your goal, a trifocal or full-range lens may be a better fit.
Yes. Vivity Toric corrects corneal astigmatism at the same time as the cataract, so patients with astigmatism can still benefit from the extended depth of focus optic.
Vivity is well suited to active patients who want strong distance and computer-range vision with minimal night-time glare and are comfortable using readers occasionally for fine print. Your Berg-Feinfield surgeon confirms candidacy during a comprehensive cataract evaluation.
