Understand the difference

One technology. Two treatment paths.

The right treatment begins with the right goal.

Dry eye care

Tixel i uses controlled heat and pressure on the eyelids for adults with evaporative dry eye caused by meibomian gland dysfunction (MGD). The goal is better tear-film function and eye comfort.

Facial aesthetics

Aesthetic Tixel treatments use fractional thermal energy for skin resurfacing. The goal is to improve the appearance of fine lines and skin texture, with settings tailored to the treatment area.

Dry eye treatment and cosmetic skin resurfacing are not interchangeable. They involve different treatment goals and protocols. Your clinician will explain which approach, if either, is appropriate for you.

Tixel for evaporative dry eye

Burning, grittiness, and fluctuating comfort can make everyday tasks frustrating. Dry eye can have more than one cause, so an eye examination comes before choosing a treatment.

The meibomian glands in your eyelids supply oil that helps slow tear evaporation. When these glands do not function well, tears can evaporate too quickly. Tixel i is FDA-cleared for localized heat and pressure therapy in adults with evaporative dry eye due to MGD.

The handpiece briefly contacts the outer eyelid skin. It delivers thermal energy rather than laser or intense pulsed light (IPL). Your clinician determines the treatment settings and appropriate eye protection.

Tixel for facial aesthetics

If fine lines or uneven skin texture are your main concern, an aesthetic consultation can help you understand whether Tixel skin resurfacing fits your goals.

Tixel transfers heat through brief contact with a titanium tip, creating a fractional treatment pattern. Aesthetic treatments can address facial skin, including selected areas around the eyes when appropriate. The intensity and treatment area influence both the expected improvement and recovery.

This is not an injectable filler or a muscle-relaxing treatment. It also does not replace eyelid surgery when surgery is the better option. Your clinician can compare approaches rather than treating every concern the same way.

Your consultation comes first

What to expect from your care

A plan built around your needs—not a one-size-fits-all package.

01

Evaluate your goals

Discuss your symptoms or skin concerns, medical history, medications, and previous treatments. An examination helps identify whether Tixel is appropriate or another option makes more sense.

02

Personalize treatment

Review the proposed treatment area, comfort measures, expected benefits, possible risks, and recovery. Dry eye and cosmetic treatment plans are discussed separately.

03

Plan your follow-up

Leave with aftercare instructions and a follow-up plan. Your response determines next steps. Do not stop prescribed eye drops or other care unless your clinician advises you to.

Make an informed choice

Comfort, recovery, and realistic expectations

Treatment can feel warm or uncomfortable. Comfort measures depend on the area and settings. Ask your clinician what you are likely to feel and how your eyes and skin will be protected.

After aesthetic treatment, temporary redness, swelling, warmth, and small surface crusts can occur. Recovery varies with treatment intensity and your skin. Review your aftercare, sun protection, and the timing of makeup or other skin products before scheduling around an important event.

Tixel is not right for everyone, and results vary. Share any active eye or skin problems, recent procedures, and relevant medical conditions at your consultation. Your clinician should explain the risks and alternatives for your specific plan.

Questions patients ask

Tixel FAQs

Is Tixel a laser or IPL treatment?

No. Tixel transfers thermal energy through brief contact with a heated tip. Laser and IPL treatments use light. Different technologies have different uses, and your examination helps guide the choice.

Does Tixel treat every type of dry eye?

No. Tixel i's FDA-cleared indication is for adults with evaporative dry eye due to meibomian gland dysfunction. Other contributors to dryness may need different or additional care. An eye examination is essential.

How many dry eye treatments will I need?

The manufacturer's usual dry eye course is three treatments spaced two weeks apart, with about two minutes of treatment time per session. Allow additional time for examination and preparation. Your clinician will confirm your schedule and whether follow-up treatment is appropriate.

Will a dry eye session also rejuvenate my skin?

Do not assume so. Dry eye therapy and cosmetic resurfacing use distinct protocols and are selected for different goals. If both interest you, ask for a plan that addresses each concern, including timing, settings, and aftercare.

Is there downtime after facial Tixel treatment?

There can be. Redness, swelling, and tiny crusts may be noticeable after resurfacing. The recovery period depends on the settings and your skin's response. Ask for a personalized estimate rather than assuming a no-downtime treatment.

What does Tixel cost, and where can I have it?

Contact Berg-Feinfield for current Tixel availability, treatment locations, and a personalized estimate. Pricing depends on the treatment plan. Ask about any insurance coverage or out-of-pocket costs before booking; coverage should not be assumed.
